Chandan cultivation of chandan plants starts with selecting suitable land—well-drained red ,loamy ,sandy ,rocky,black cotton in semi-arid to tropical climates. Saplings are planted with host Plants due to its semi-parasitic nature. Spacing of 12×10 ft is common. Maintenance includes regular weeding, pruning, and pest control. Trees mature in 13–15 years, forming valuable heartwood and oil.Indian Sandalwood having Aromatic & medicinal Properties as well.
Environmental Needs
Requires 600–1600 mm rainfall, temperatures of 5°C–45°C altitude up to 1200 m. Grows well in open sunlight with minimal shade for the chandan plants.
Economics of Chandan Plants
Initial investment: ₹3–5 lakh/acre. Mature trees can yield 1–1.5crore/acre. Sandalwood is Good an organic way of investment. govt has liberalised Sandalwood cultivation ,now everybody can grow sandalwood plant at their fiels,farm or private lands. Though long-term, it offers high returns and export potential, making it a lucrative agroforestry venture.
